Sometimes we hear abbreviations and don’t know what they mean. Have you heard your child’s provider use the term EPSDT? EPSDT stands for Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic, and Treatment. This preventive screening helps to identify and treat conditions that may impede the growth and development of children. EPSDT is a useful tool for getting children the services they need when they need them. If you notice your child has a delay in speech, learning, or growth, bring it up to your child’s provider. They will complete a screening to look for delays in development. If your child’s provider determines that your child does have any delay, they will work with you to provide the right services for their needs. All children who are eligible to receive Medicaid are guaranteed by law to get the screenings and all medically necessary diagnostic and treatment services for their physical and mental illnesses or conditions, whether or not the services are regularly covered under the state Medicaid plan. Talk to your provider about any questions you may have. Attending your well-baby and well-child visits can help ensure that your child is meeting milestones and staying healthy.
