Being able to take part in tasks and interests that help build your skills in reasoning, planning, and problem solving can help you keep your mind active and healthy. Tasks and interests can be things like reading, journaling, or doing a crossword puzzle. Overcoming barriers Many people in New Mexico face barriers that can affect intellectual wellness. Your mind is healthier with access to education, healthcare, and healthy food choices. When you have limited or no access to these resources, it can affect your intellectual wellness. Many cultures and communities have traditions and practices that support learning new skills and customs. This can help decrease barriers and strengthen knowledge. How you can work on wellness Try one of these three tips to help strengthen your mind: 1. Read more. Try reading instead of watching television, your phone, or other screens. Reading a book can help improve your skills and keep your mind active. 2. Write more. Try journaling. Journaling involves writing down your personal thoughts. This can keep your mind active and help build your writing skills. You can also write about new things you’ve learned or want to learn. 3. Think more. Play games such as a daily word search, crossword puzzle, or board game. You will use your mind and can help improve your problem- solving skills. Try the word scramble to the right. Use the word box as clues and unscramble each of the words.
