2 Breast cancer screening reminder Breast cancer is the second most common cancer among women in the United States. It affects breast tissue. Some women are at higher risk for breast cancer than others because of their personal or family history. Higher risk is also due to certain changes in their genes. Regular screenings can lower the risk of dying from breast cancer. The United States Preventive Services Task Force states that: ● ● Women 50 to 74 years old at average risk should have a screening every two years. ● ● Women who are 40 to 49 years old at average risk should talk to their provider about when to start and how often to get screenings.
